A message to institutions.

Dear colleague,

I will be direct about the part that usually takes three meetings to establish, because it is the reason I am writing to institutions at all: there is nothing here to procure.

No seat licences to count. No roster to import, no directory to sync, no accounts to create or reset. Nothing about a student is collected or stored anywhere, because the app has no server to send anything to — the notation, the metronome and the audio all run on the device. Apple requires every developer to declare what an app gathers and publishes the answer on the store listing itself; for this app it reads Data Not Collected. That is a third party's statement, not mine.

What that does not mean is that your review is unnecessary. Whether to review a tool is your institution's decision and your policy, and it would be improper of me to have an opinion about it. It means only that there is no personal data for such a review to find.

Everything a teacher can assign is free permanently — all twelve major scales on sixty-nine instruments, each in its own correct written key, clef and playable range, along with the metronome, the tuning drones and the ear-training. That is a rule written into the app rather than a promise on a web page.

Now the limitation, which I would rather you hear from me than discover later. The advanced material is a single optional in-app purchase, and in-app purchases cannot be bought in volume by an institution or distributed through managed accounts. If your plan involves buying the paid tier for a cohort, that plan will not work, and no conversation with me will make it work. Everything a teacher assigns is on the free side, so in practice this rarely matters — but you should know it before you spend anyone's time.
